Overview - Community of Hope

Hope Renewed’s Community of Hope is located about 4 hours away from Guatemala City, Guatemala in Santiago-Atitlán. In partnership with CrossRoads Church, Community of Hope is currently under construction and is in the final stages of program planning.

For young men aging out of the orphan care system, the future is often filled with uncertainty and purposelessness. With no family to return to, no way to pay for education, and few job opportunities, many older adolescent and young adult males end up on the streets and in gangs. Extortion and crime become their way of life, and many quickly end up in jail.

Hope Renewed’s Response

Hope Renewed’s Community of Hope for young men is an investment in future fathers, husbands and male leaders in Guatemala.  Currently under construction on the breathtaking shores of Lake Atitlán, the site will house up to 20 young men from ages 16 – 22. The home will provide a nurturing environment where the young adults will receive care, counseling, education and vocational training. The program will take residents through several stages of training, each with progressively independent living and increased personal responsibility.

Our young men will be actively engaged in life skills and vocational training on site. They will work in the construction of future stages of the home. They will also work in agriculture, both in self-sufficient vegetable and fruit gardens for the home, and in coffee production and marketing, already being managed by our agriculturalist, Dani Quieju.

IMMEDIATE GOALS:

• Continue to work on Community of Hope Programming Plan.

• Continue to work on construction timeline

• Look for grant opportunities to fund programming and construction

• Look for a Director who can continue developing relationships with the surrounding community and with orphanages

LONG-TERM GOALS:

• Hire a Director who can continue to develop relationships with the surrounding community, making connections for vocational training and job opportunities for residents

• Hire a Director who will begin making connections and establishing relationships with orphanages to begin the process of transitioning residents from there to the Community of Hope
