Why Guatemala - by Yvette Brandes (Board Treasurer)
Why do I support HRI?
I first became involved with Hope Renewed about 4 years ago when my sister-in-law and current President of HRI asked me if I would be interested in doing the bookkeeping for Hope Renewed. I had recently retired and was looking for ways to serve. This need seemed to fit well with my professional experience and I now have the time. I continue to support this organization because I know first-hand that all donations go directly to serve the people in Guatemala. Our organization is led by a Board full of integrity and dedicated to our mission of serving, equipping and empowering those within our scope of ministry in Guatemala.
Isn't there plenty of need in our own country?
In Acts 1:8 Jesus told His disciples to "be My witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." We are called to serve Him within our home church, in our communities, and beyond our borders. God is at work everywhere and will use our gifts when we offer them back to Him. In Luke 10:2 Jesus tells us that "the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." Hope Renewed is an organization seeking to be and send workers beyond our borders to join God in the work He is doing in Guatemala.
Do I really feel any amount of money/support sent to Guatemala can make a difference?
YES!! It has been an amazing privilege to see how over and over God has brought in donations at just the time of need. If two years ago someone had told me that we would have to continue our ministry without the help of mission teams, I would have strongly doubted that we could survive. Our ministries look different now than they did two years ago but we are still bringing the love and hope of Jesus Christ to the communities where HRI serves. We have supporters who have given large donations and those who send us just a few dollars. We are grateful for each and every dollar! More importantly is the prayerful support for the mission of Hope Renewed. "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." (James 5:16).
